Anonymous donor aids fundraiser
Saturday's charity drive at Bluegrass Downs
for families affected by the Lake Barkley fatal
boating accident in June isn't over.
Andrea Higdon, one of the organizers, said
an anonymous donor has pledged to match any
money collected through Friday, and then double
his donation, by up to $10,000.
Proceeds from the auctions and ticket sales
from the approximately 150 who attended the
drive totaled about $13,000. The money will
go to families and the surviving crash victims.
Johnna Snow, 38, of Paducah and Adam K. Smith,
28, of Corbin died in the boat crash. Cobey
Slankard, 31, and Heather Reams, 24, both of
Paducah, were seriously injured, but are recovering.
The Snows, Reams and Slankard worked together
at Century 21 Service Realty in Paducah. They
had been attending the summer meeting of the
Kentucky Association of Realtors at the Barkley
Lodge Convention Center near Cadiz.
Higdon encourages people to drop off money
in person at her Century 21 office at 3225 Coleman
Road. Anyone who drops off more than $10 will
receive a free T-shirt. Checks should be payable
to Realtors Benefit. Only money received by
Friday will be matched, but checks may be sent
to Realtors Benefit, Century 21, 3225 Coleman
Road, Paducah, KY 42001.
"That's amazing that someone is so generous
to do that," Higdon said of the anonymous
donor.
